Get to know Jamal

Jamal Sayid

Jamal (he/him/his) is a graduate of Georgia State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He currently serves as a ReNew Democracy Fellow in Congresswoman Nikema Williams's office in Washington, DC.

At Georgia State University, Jamal served as President of the Student Government Association, where he championed initiatives to improve inclusion, equity, and mental health on campus. In addition to his leadership role, he gained valuable research experience through the Puentes Consortium Undergraduate Research program, focusing on technological inequalities and global interactions. His internship with Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux allowed him to further hone his policy and finance expertise.

Jamal's achievements extend beyond the classroom and campus. He was selected as a Frederick Douglass Global Fellow, which enabled him to study abroad in Ireland, deepening his understanding of international relations. His dedication to public service and academic excellence has earned him recognition, including the Princeton University Prize in Race Relations and the President's Volunteer Service Award Gold.

Drawing from his experiences as the son of Somali refugees, Jamal is deeply committed to advocating for marginalized communities and aspires to become an attorney focused on social justice.
