Get to know Sam
Sam Jacobson
Sam Jacobson is a ReNew Democracy Senior Fellow, placed in the Office of Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD). Born and raised in Columbia, MD, Sam has dedicated his career to public service. In particular, Sam is committed to building housing systems and markets that allow all people to flourish.
Sam is a lawyer and a housing policy expert. Prior to joining Senator Van Hollen’s office, Sam earned his juris doctor with cum laude honors from Harvard Law School. During his time in law school, Sam completed internships with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. In addition, he advised the Biden-Harris administration and the Senate Banking Committee on efforts to increase the national housing supply.
Sam earned his B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from Swarthmore College, where he was also a varsity baseball player. In his free time, Sam enjoys biking in Rock Creek Park, learning (slowly) how to play guitar, and badgering his friends and family to support more housing in their neighborhoods.
